Company details

The years of experience in PV projects by local companies are classified into four categories (<5 years, 5-10 years, 11-20 years and >20 years). There are two companies, one with <5 years of experience and the other with >20 years of experience. The majority of the companies (7) have between 5-10 years of experience.

PV companies employ people mainly for sales and marketing, as engineers and technicians and in the management department which are divided into four main groups of people: 1-3, 4-6, 7-10 and >10. The minimum and maximum number of people employed in the different positions with respect to the four main groups is as tabulated below.

Fig.2: Number of people employed in different positions

Table 1: Minimum and maximum number of people employed in different positions
Position Minimum number of people employed Maximum number of people employed
Sales and Marketing 22 42
Engineer 34 56
Technician 61 88
Management 25 45

From Table 1, the minimum and maximum number of total people employed in local PV companies is 142 and 231 respectively. It is observed that the number of people employed as technicians hold the largest percentage share of approximately 37% that clearly corresponds to the values calculated in Table 1.

An analysis of the number of people employed in each category in each company was made. The conclusions for each category of employees are:

Sales and Marketing staff: seven (7) companies employ between 1-3 staff in sales and marketing, one (1) company employed between 4 - 6 and one (1) company employs > 10 staff in this field.

Engineers: Five (5) companies employ between 1 - 3 engineers, one (1) company between 4 - 6, two (2) companies between 7 - 10 and one (1) company has >10 engineers.

Technicians: Two (2) companies employ between 1- 3 technicians, two (2) companies between 4 - 6, one (1) company between 7 -10 and four (4) companies have >10 technicians.

Management: Six (6) companies employ between 1 -3 staff in management position, two (2) companies employ between 4- 6 staff and one (1) company employ >10 staff in management positions.

An analysis of the number of PV projects (both Off-grid and Grid-tied) installed by each company as at February 2021 was made. The conclusions are:

Two (2) companies installed < 25 PV projects, two (2) companies between 25 – 50, two (2) companies between 101 – 200, one (1) company between 201 – 500 and two (2) companies more than 500 PV projects.

An analysis of the total capacity of Off-grid, Grid-tied and Hybrid systems installed by each company was made. The conclusions for each type of PV systems are:

Off-grid systems: Seven (7) companies have installed < 100kW Off-grid PV systems, one (1) between 100kW – 0.5MW and one (1) company has not yet installed this type of PV system since its incorporation.

Grid-tied systems: Two (2) companies have installed < 100kW Grid-grid PV systems, two (2) between 100kW – 0.5MW, , two (2) between 0.5MW – 1MW, one (1) between 1MW – 10MW and one (1) > 50MW.

Hybrid systems: Five (5) companies have installed > 100kW Hybrid PV systems and four (4) have not yet installed this type of PV system yet.
