Introduction

This survey is based on the research project entitled “Innovation in the First Axe of Park of Excellence in Solar PV (PESP): Phase I Online Solar Energy Mapping, Forecasting and PV Education Platform" at the University of Mauritius and has been conducted in 2021.

It recognises objectives at three separate parts:

The questions asked were categorised into four different sections as follows:

Company details

  1. Full name of the company
  2. Date of incorporation of the company
  3. Years of experience in PV projects locally
  4. Number of people employed by the company in different positions (sales and marketing, engineer, technician and management) as at February 2021
  5. In total how many PV projects (both Off-grid and Grid-tied) have been installed by the company since its incorporation?
  6. What are the different types of PV project (Off-grid, Grid-tied, Hybrid) installed by the company?
  7. As at February 2021, what is the total capacity of PV systems (Off-grid, Grid-tied, Hybrid) that has been installed by the company, since its incorporation?

Off-grid systems

  1. Tick the most appropriate box to choose the number of Off-grid systems (DC coupled storage, AC coupled storage and Hybrid) installed by the company.
  2. What are the different types of battery used in off-grid projects? (Lead acid, Lithium-ion, Nickel-cadmium, Other)
  3. Please indicate the per kW cost in Rs, for the Off-grid PV systems.
  4. Please indicate the approximate percentage share of the components/items (panels, mounting structure, power electronics equipment (inverter, controller etc.), battery, cables and protection, design and project development) in the cost breakdown of Off-grid PV systems.

Grid-tied systems

Types of technologies deployed

  1. Please indicate the estimated share of panel technologies (mono-crystalline Si, multi/poly-crystalline Si, amorphous Si, CdTe, CIS/CIGS, bifacial) which have been deployed in PV systems by the company since its incorporation.
  2. Please indicate the estimated share of power electronics converters (string inverter, central inverter, micro-inverter, power optimiser) deployed in Grid-tied PV projects since the incorporation of the company.
  3. Please indicate the preferred choice of power electronic converters for PV projects falling under SSDG, MSDG and Utility.

The targeted group of local PV companies was eighteen (18) and nine (9) responses were received.
